Description
‘CUNT SWEET’ came out of an exhibit of works exploring the inherent social & cultural biases we can manifest when confronted with particular language (via Dual Inheritance Theory). This playful screen-print was included in my ‘Failure To Communicate’ solo show as a counter-balance to some of the more incendiary pieces, with the aim of creating a moment of pause for audiences confronted with the ubiquitous ‘C’ word. I wanted to make the argument that the word (and language itself) only holds the power you give it, or perhaps going further, the power ordained upon it by any individual or group.
There’s a little bit of mischief in this print, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, but at the same time it’s a little jarring if your guard is down. When I was originally drafting the more profane works in the show I was asking myself whether or not I ‘should be’, which in turn immediately gave me my answer. Yes.
Don’t be a cunt, support the arts…
